The books were neither classified nor catalogued. Now they are known by their works.ĭuring our freshman year the College library was open only on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons, the traditional half holidays, under the charge of juniors. The masters of music and painting were known to us merely by name, if at all. ![]() The fine arts have begun to receive their proper recognition. Most of the other departments have been similarly expanded and enriched during the recent years. In contrast, the members of the Class of 1940 had the opportunity to take four or five year courses in any of the sciences in which they were interested, in modern, well-equipped laboratories, under the personal guidance of stimulating teachers. ![]() Only in chemistry and mineralogy was laboratory work offered and there with meager facilities. Physics and geology were one-term courses. And some understanding of the scientific method is an essential part of the equipment of the educated man.įifty years ago the curriculum gave relatively less attention to science than it did in the earliest days of the College. The life of the individual, the relations of man in society and the movements of civilization are more and more being determined by the achievements of the scientists. It has often been assumed that the sciences are outside the domain of the humanities. The present extended courses in the classics include these writers, and with books, photographs and colored reproductions of ancient art, bring to the student a survey of the culture of the ancient world. ![]() Plato, Aristotle, Lucretius, Catullus were not in the curriculum. The history, philosophy, art and culture of the ancient world were neglected. The authors were approached as if they had lived in a vacuum. Few of us gained this reward for the many hours of work, which we devoted to the ancient languages few felt the power and beauty of Greek and Latin poetry. It gave an elementary introduction to a large number of subjects, with little opportunity to go beyond the elements.Įducation in the classical languages, at its best, is the study of great literature, and through that the study of history and politics, of philosophy and the fine arts an attempt to get directly from the originals the great cultural and intellectual heritage of the classical civilization. Perhaps the curriculum was in a transitional stage. It seems to have been constructed on the assumption that we were all to be fashioned in one mould. Though it had broken with tradition so far as to permit electives in the upperclass years, it was still too rigid. It definitely achieved the first of these objectives, with its emphasis on studies that demanded close application and the exercise of the reason. The traditional curriculum, which resembled that of most of the colleges of the day, was designed to discipline the mind and to give an introduction to subjects considered most important. Electives were offered in the languages, mathematics, English literature, history, political science, philosophy, chemistry, mineralogy and geology. The curriculum required the completion of two years of Greek and of Latin, mathematics through analytical geometry, elementary courses in French, German, English, physics, chemistry, astronomy, philosophy, political science, economics, ethics, religion, public speaking, composition and debate. When we entered Hamilton in the fall of 1886, the College required for admission three years of Greek, four years of Latin, algebra, geometry, history, English composition and grammar. The annalist is therefore a reporter who does not venture to present his own judgments but rather a composite picture of the opinions of the class.įirst of all, it is necessary to look at the College as it was in our day, with some glimpses of present conditions. It was believed that their opinions might not be devoid of interest. More than half of the men in our class have been engaged in educational work others have followed the changes in higher education during the past half-century all are concerned for the welfare of Hamilton. The annalist for the Class of 1890 was asked by some of his classmates to depart from the usual procedure in order to bring together the views of the class on college education and the College as it was 50 years ago. ![]() It’s important to remember when you’re creating games to avoid making your characters too big. ![]() If you make your characters larger than necessary, your game will not only look unpolished, but it’ll also look unprofessional. In physics based games, larger characters carry additional weight which will ultimately slow the game down. It makes the game harder and less fun because the character is less agile. The larger your character, the more difficult it is to clear jumps, fly, or maneuver through various zones. Large characters also take up large portions of the screen which distracts from the other elements of your game like cool backgrounds and obstacles. When you make a game with characters that are too big it’ll seriously affect the gameplay and your player’s overall experience in a negative way.Ī well-designed game has balance, and when your characters are bigger than normal, it makes the game feel off. Your character should be small and proportionate. In game design, size matters and bigger is not always better, especially regarding character size. New game creators often assume that it’s better to make their game characters big because they’re much easier for players to see.Īlthough these reasons make sense in theory, when you’re creating games you should never make your character too big. Or they believe by making it larger it will make the game more fun and unique. ![]() Maybe they’ve devoted a lot of time or money creating the perfect superhero or monster character for their game and want to show it off. It’s also an easy mistake to make, especially if you’re new to game design.įor some game developers, making game characters, large may seem like the thing to do. Making your game characters too big is one of the biggest mistakes that we see in games. In a separate post, CEO Trey Smith suggests that the promotion will be over once the company reaches an internal sales figure.īuildbox is the technology which initially powered indie hit Color Switch. The promotion is available for a limited time, but Buildbox has not specified when it actually ends. "We've decided to do the unthinkable and give all of this away to anyone who tries Buildbox during this limited promotion." "During these last 6 years with the game business, we've spent over $100,000 on custom art and sound, and now we have one of the largest asset databases for games," wrote Buildbox Social Media Manager Tiana Crump in a blog post on the promotion. The resources will be available to developers even if they sign-up and then immediately cancel. The rest of the bundle includes source code for games and courses in setting up a business and publishing games.Ī Buildbox subscription costs $99 for a month and can be cancelled at any time. The resources include $62,000 worth of art assets, $15,000 worth of sounds, and $12,000 worth of "illustrated art". "Codeless" game engine Buildbox has unveiled a new Buildbox Everything promotion which offers developers $100,000 worth of resources when they try the engine. The cars are also based on real cars, which is neat but not as big of a deal to me (I don't really care what I'm 'driving' as long as the physics are simulated properly). When was the last time a new track was released for LFS (not just a new config like SO6)? In iRacing, they're pretty consistent about adding new tracks. Since I joined in May, they've added Sebring, Barber, and PIR. They've added oval tracks, too, but I only pay attention to the road course stuff. They've also added the NASCAR Craftsman Truck and Silver Crown cars on the oval side since I've joined. A Riley Daytona Prototype is coming soon-ish, as is a Spec Racer Ford. They've announced some other cars but I think they'll come further down the pipeline. The development team is much bigger with iRacing (LFS is 3 guys). At the end of the beta, I got a letter saying they've spent $22 million on the sim so far. You can really tell that there is a big team and a lot of money behind iRacing. So for cars and tracks, iRacing wins it for me. LFS does have some things that iRacing doesn't, though. In iRacing you don't have to lift to shift in any cars and you can't stall a car. They did just add engine damage to iRacing, though. LFS also allows driver swaps for endurance races. The LFS tire model has some things that iRacing doesn't (flat spots are modeled more correctly as are dirty tires). The 'service' aspect is where the 2 sims are very different. ![]() ![]() In iRacing, you're subscribing to the iRacing service, which is the simulation plus the overall sanctioning body. The original PSVR sports a circular white matte strap with a rubber cushion finish lining the inside of its halo-shaped design. "Our engineers came up with this idea as a good way to allow ventilation and avoid having the lens fog up while players are immersed in their VR games. “When I started to work on the design for the PlayStation VR2 headset, one of the areas I wanted to focus on first was the idea of creating a vent in the headset to let air out, similar to the vents on the PS5 console that allows airflow," said Yujin Morisawa. Users can also expect a new vent design for the PlayStation VR2 headset, with Senior Art Director at SIE Yujin Morisawa claiming this is the lead designer's favorite feature. This includes a lens adjustment dial, a new built-in motor for headset feedback, and a slimmer design with a slight weight reduction. However, there are new features added, too. The PSVR 2 will boast an adjustable scope that places the scope area closer or further away from the face, and the placement of the stereo headphone jack will remain the same as the previous generation. Oh, and you can also expect those tiny PlayStation symbols on the front and back bands. According to the announcement, the company has paid more attention to the ergonomics of the PS5's next-gen VR headset, along with adding familiar features from the original PSVR. Taking on a "circular orb shape" that is claimed to represent the 360-degree view that players will feel, the PlayStation VR2 headset and Sense controllers are inspired by Sony's PS5 and its family of products. This doesn’t make it any easier to purchase though, seeing as many will need to put at least a $399 dent in their wallet to nab a PS5 first. ![]() Since the second-gen HMD offers a list of upgrades, including haptic feedback, better display resolution and more, it will be more than worth the price when compared to its predecessor. PlayStation’s VR headsets cost the same as their console counterparts, meaning the PSVR 2 is likely to either cost the same as the PS5 Digital Edition or PS5 Standard Edition. These days, you can find a PSVR mega bundle on sale from $299.99/£259.99 at retailers such as Argos or $349 for an Iron Man bundle at Best Buy. However, Sony announced a price drop in 2017, taking the PlayStation Worlds bundle down to $449 and adding a PS Camera to the standard bundle. When the PSVR bundle originally launched in October 2016, the HMD cost $399/£349, with a more expensive bundle, which included a PS Camera, two PlayStation Move controllers and PlayStation Worlds, priced at $499/£449. That said, considering the upgraded specs, the new Sense controllers that come packed with the headset, and the $100/£100 price difference between the PS4 ($399/£349) and PS5 Standard Edition ($499/£450), there’s reason to believe PSVR 2 will be pricer than the PSVR.
